Barbara Buono getting last laugh, she says "Democrats have Christie buyer's remorse"

In Democrats Have Christie ‘Buyer’s Remorse,’ Buono Says, by Jason Horowitz of the NYT we learn that the former Democratic candidate for Governor of New Jersey is getting the last laugh and enjoying overwhelming media attention focusing on the  Christie's scandals, "finally!" She has a few choice words for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, DNC Chairwomen Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, and a few others who phoned in support after she lost.

METUCHEN, N.J. — The former campaign workers who partied at the home of Barbara Buono this month were “just jubilant.” The people she bumps into on the street “are just happier to greet me.” And amid the deluge of supportive texts she receives, there are often pictures of Gov. Chris Christie sitting on the George Washington Bridge. She chuckles but doesn’t reply.

The Fort Lee traffic jam scandal has unleashed a wintry mix of subpoenas, tortured apologies and fresh allegations against Mr. Christie, a Republican, and potentially put a deep freeze on his presidential chances. But the same revelations have had a warming effect on Ms. Buono, the Democratic nominee who badly lost to Mr. Christie in the November election and bitterly complained about the betrayal of Democrats who barely lifted a finger to help her. Ms. Buono has gone from media piñata, Democratic pariah and Keystone Candidate to the Cassandra of the Christie scandal, whose October warnings about “the unexplained closure of two lanes starting in Fort Lee” went unheeded by most fellow Democrats. ...

“I’m lovin’ it,” Ms. Buono said of her post-political life. A telegenic 60-year-old, she said she loves the rush of live television and would be interested in a career in media. She is considering some business opportunities out in Chicago but is also enjoying long morning runs, Lauryn Hill concerts (“She was rapping before a lot of other women”) and traveling to the West Indies and France with her husband, who recently has recovered from head and neck cancer.

She also expresses bewilderment at apparent Democratic desire to get Christie to resign, and instead thinks we should be happy to have him stay on and taint the GOP for as long as we can.

Fair use only allows me to use three paragraphs, which were tough to choose, so I encourage you to read this whole poignant interview loaded with uplifting, and humorous quips and anecdotes from Buono. This article is worth a read just for the build up to his last line about Senator Buono being the David who picked up the stone against Goliath. Horowitz quips, “Now that Goliath is down, everyone is kicking him. But she had courage.”

I'd like to apologize to Senator Buono and the people of New Jersey because I'm one of one of "those" Democrats who did not pay attention to the New Jersey race, and feel even worse now that I've gotten to know Barbara Buono better from this article.
